Reporter and Co-Producer

This project came out of my graduate school work interviewing families who’ve been separated by the child welfare system, as well as dozens of experts in the field. After graduation, I worked with LCMedia Productions, a nonprofit documentary film company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to bring the reporting to life in a documentary film. LCMedia was founded and is led by Bill Lichtenstein, whose investigative reporting for ABC News earned 3 Emmy nominations. Working together on a small team, I developed my skills in investigative reporting as well as field production.

Investigative reporting for a documentary and companion book based upon my master’s thesis research.

Reporting tasks include:

  • Conducted in-depth interviews with families and individuals impacted by the child welfare system, bringing a trauma-informed and social justice lens to challenging conversations

  • Located and identified experts in the child welfare system; including judges, pediatricians, scholars, and community advocates. Conducted extensive interviews for background and included on film

  • Research of legal records, public records, and scientific studies

Production responsibilities:

  • Organized successful crowdfunding campaigns, raising more than $100,000

  • Development of the outreach and impact campaign, ensuring that the film can be utilized to effectuate change across the country
