This project came out of my graduate school work interviewing families who’ve been separated by the child welfare system, as well as dozens of experts in the field. After graduation, I worked with LCMedia Productions, a nonprofit documentary film company based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, to bring the reporting to life in a documentary film. LCMedia was founded and is led by Bill Lichtenstein, whose investigative reporting for ABC News earned 3 Emmy nominations. Working together on a small team, I developed my skills in investigative reporting as well as field production.
Investigative reporting for a documentary and companion book based upon my master’s thesis research.
Reporting tasks include:
Conducted in-depth interviews with families and individuals impacted by the child welfare system, bringing a trauma-informed and social justice lens to challenging conversations
Located and identified experts in the child welfare system; including judges, pediatricians, scholars, and community advocates. Conducted extensive interviews for background and included on film
Research of legal records, public records, and scientific studies
Production responsibilities:
